Grant Campbell established the hardest route in South Africa

Gripped.com reports that visiting Canadian climber Grant Campbell may have established the hardest route in South Africa on a recent visit (February 2005).

Campbell completed a longstanding open project at Oudtshoorn known as The Streetfighter Project, renaming it Two to Win, after a bet he made to motivate himself for the ascent.

Both Campbell and Paul Brouard (Freak interview here), who bolted the line originally, feel the climb is probably around 5.14b.
If confirmed, this will be the most difficult sport climb in South Africa.

Here we are with Grant comment released to our friend website RockAddiction.co.za about this adventure:

"We went back to Oudtshoorn and I did two new projects. One was the thing on the left of the main wall. I decided to call it "Two to Win" after a bet Jenn and I had to try to motivate each other. Basically I had two chances to climb that route and I would win the bet, hence the name.

The other project was the extension to the Paws route. Clinton had said that it was an undone project so I gave it a go. I think it's realy cool. Seriously pumpy! I mean my forearms were suffering from sharp pain as I clipped the anchors. It's a great extension to a great climb. You should try it if you get out there any time soon. Bring some endurance though. I named it (provided it hasn't been climbed) "The Ankle". I guess it felt slightly harder than the extension to Sid Vicious, and a bit easier than El Nino although it's hard to compare since they're two totally different styles of climbing. Who knows really?"
